Our organization, “The Sam Bruno P.E.T. Scanner Fund”, is comprised of a steering committee of eight members, seven of whom are family members namely: Cheryl Bruno, widow of Sam, Frank Bruno, brother, Lori Bouchard and Mary Hopkin, sisters, Trisha Moore and Jody Third, step-daughters, Rita Beech, cousin and Brenda Tessaro, family friend..

Our Mission: To advocate for fair and equitable access to health care for all northerners

Our Goal: To continue to work toward the acquisition of a P.E.T. scanner, an essential diagnostic device for our hospital, Health Sciences North. This diagnostic device assists in the diagnosis and staging of treatment for various cancers, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases and epilepsy.

Funding Sources: We organize one major fundraising event near the end of October each year known as “The Sam Bruno P.E.T. Scanner Annual Dinner and Fundraiser Gala”. Since its inception in 2010, we have raised over $2,132,000.00 This total includes onetime donations from The Sudbury Firefighter Combat Challenge Team, Sudbury Classic Cruisers, and Belanger Ford, USW, The Sudbury Police Association, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #76 and The Miners for Cancer to name a few. In addition, the Lion’s Club of Onaping, Sudbury Kinsmen Club, K of C #3909, Local 598, Carp, Schwarzkopf Professionals, and Porketta Bingos have been a source of funding as well as personal donations and in memoriams.
We are extremely proud of this accomplishment given that we are such a small group, but even more proud of the fact that on December 15, 2015, the Minister of Health and Long Term Care, Dr. Eric Hoskins, announced government funding of $1.6 million annually in operating costs effective April 1, 2016. However, despite this success, our financial need is great and the community need is immediate.
The cost of a P.E.T. scanner ranges between $3.5 and $4 million, leaving us still with a shortfall of between $1.5-$2 million dollars in capital costs for the purchase of the scanner. Our fundraising monies are held in The Sam Bruno P.E.T. Scanner Fund at The Northern Cancer Foundation at The Northern Cancer Centre. We will continue to work diligently toward achieving our goal and would sincerely appreciate your participation in assisting us in making a P.E.T. (Positron Emission Tomography) scanner, a reality for the citizens of Sudbury and the entire Northeast.

Thank you in advance for your consideration in supporting this very worthy cause. Please contact:
